Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is handled in GST[AR] for Android.

We Collect No Personal Information Using Our Application

GiGa infosystems GmbH (we) does not collect, use, save, or have access to any of your personal data recorded in GST[AR] for Android. Individual settings related to the GST[AR] app are not personal and are stored only on your device.

You will be asked to provide access to your camera. This is required to place geological models in augmented reality and is essential for the core functionality of the app. We do not have any access to or save any captured footage.

Furthermore, we ask for access to precise location information. This access will be used to enable collaboration via peer-to-peer connections with other devices. If you do not want to use any collaborative features, you do not have to grant the permission for this to use this app. Your phone will only advertise its name to other instances of GST[AR] if you want to share a collaborative session. During a collaborative session, only information about the session is exchanged locally between devices. No model or session data will be transmitted over a server with the exception of cloud anchors (see „Google ARCore“ for more information).

A user is able to store a URL pointing to an endpoint providing data and models to the app. This information will be stored on device and is never transmitted to us or a remote server. This URL might be transmitted locally to other devices joining a collaborative session created from the device on which the URL is stored. This is required for all peers of the collaborative session to access the model data.

Google ARCore

This application runs on Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), which is provided by Google and governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

GiGa infosystems GmbH has no access to any data collected, stored, or processed by Google Play Services for AR. To request or delete personal data, a user must contact Google directly.

ARCore data encryption

All user data collected by ARCore on devices that originally shipped with the Google Play Store is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.

ARCore data that is always collected

ARCore collects the following user data, regardless of which ARCore APIs your app uses:

User IDs

  • ARCore automatically collects Google account identifiers if the user is signed in to their Google account. Google does not share these identifiers with third parties.
  • This data collection is required, and data is stored by Google to produce analytics.
  • ARCore uses this data to determine user engagement, including AR usage by app.

Device IDs

  • ARCore automatically collects device-specific identifiers if the user is not signed in to a Google account. Google does not share these identifiers with third parties.
  • This data collection is required, and data is stored by Google to produce analytics.
  • ARCore uses this data to determine user engagement, including AR usage by app.

Performance and other diagnostic data

  • ARCore automatically collects performance and other diagnostic data about the app, the ARCore SDK, and the user’s device; for example, battery life, loading time, latency, framerate, and other diagnostics. ARCore does not share this performance and other diagnostic data with third parties.
  • This data collection is required, and data is stored by Google to determine real-world ARCore performance, diagnose runtime behavior, and to help improve AR experiences for developers and users.

API usage and app activity

  • ARCore automatically collects data about the ARCore API calls that your app makes. ARCore does not share this ARCore API call data with third parties.
  • ARCore API call data collection is required, and data is stored by Google to produce analytics, ensure ARCore is operating correctly, and to help deliver high quality AR experiences for developers and users.

ARCore data that is conditionally collected

ARCore collects the following user data, only when your app uses certain ARCore APIs as indicated:

Precise location

  • When using the ARCore Geospatial API, ARCore collects precise location data, which is required to provide API functionality. Google does not share this precise location data with third parties.
  • Google may store and analyze this precise location data in anonymized form for purposes including improvement of Google products and services; otherwise, this precise location data is stored temporarily and marked for automated deletion.

Video data

  • ARCore automatically collects video data while hosting Cloud Anchors, resolving Cloud Anchors, or when using the ARCore Geospatial API. Google does not share this collected video data with third parties.
    • When hosting Cloud Anchors, collected video data is stored temporarily. This video data is marked for automatic deletion after the Cloud Anchor hosting process has finished.
    • When resolving Cloud Anchors, collected video data is processed in real-time, in memory only. This video data is not retained after the Cloud Anchor resolving process has finished.
    • When using the ARCore Geospatial API, collected video data is stored temporarily, then marked for automatic deletion. Anonymized data extracted from the video may be collected, stored, and analyzed to improve Google products and services
  • When hosting Cloud Anchors, resolving Cloud Anchors, or using the ARCore Geospatial API, this data collection and processing is required to provide API functionality.

Cloud Anchor data

  • When hosting Cloud Anchors, ARCore automatically creates and stores user-generated Cloud Anchor data. Google does not share this user-generated Cloud Anchor data with third parties.
  • When hosting Cloud Anchors, this data collection is required to provide app functionality.
  • When resolving Cloud Anchors, Google collects user-generated Cloud Anchor data to resolve Cloud Anchor API requests.
  • When resolving Cloud Anchors, Google does not share user-generated Cloud Anchor data with third parties.
