Release of GST 3.16
November 10, 2025 11:16 p.m.We are happy to release GST 3.16 today. This release includes many of the developments made through 2025. Some of these have already been available to a few of you, and now they are being released to everyone.
We skipped the announcement of 3.15 hence this overview is going to incorporate changes from 3.15 as well.
We are proud to share that with this release, we have pushed the boundaries of 3d visualization significantly. Not only did we fix the handling of large geometries but also made it faster and overall more efficient:
- the display of structured grids has been improved tremendously
- the display of solids (or tetrahedra networks) has been improved by far
- the display of triangular networks has been reworked and improved.
Most of the geometries can now display a larger amount and in shorter time with a better overall performance.
Here is a quick list of what has changed in GST 3.15 and 3.16!
- Borehole ML import
- Display of lithology as textures
- Multilingual boreholes
- Metadata for borehole layers
- Borehole Quality Report
- Improved SEGY import
- OGC API Processes
- Client-side License Checking
- Further changes
Furthermore, we tweaked a lot to make GST Server, GST Desktop and GST Web easier to use and respond faster. And, as usual, a couple of bugs have been eliminated under the hood. Take a look at this blog post to learn more about each individual feature, or let us know what you think about these changes on LinkedIn or email us (support@giga-infosystems.com) or use our contact form.
Borehole ML import
To make it easier to import boreholes into GST, you can now use the Borehole ML (BML) importer. This allows to read many BML files in version 3.0 at once and import them. With this technique, you can also import boreholes from open WFS sources. All of the data contained will be imported and marked as metadata.
Display of lithology as textures
With the import of BML we also introduced the possibility to display a detailed lithology. You can now display the percentages of each lithologic part and even combine their single textures into one. This allows for a much better transport of the complete borehole information.

Multilingual boreholes
Together with the BML-import capabilities we also allow for support of translated borehole data. You can now translated all single parts of the borehole data in to many languages. With this you can make your data even more accessible to everyone.
Metadata for borehole layers
We all know that rigid data models often do not allow to cater all use cases. Sometimes data models are invented before all use cases are known and sometimes use cases arise later when the data model has been fixed.
With our new approach we give you the power to break out of rigid data models and deliver the information your users need. Our metadata approach is highly flexible and allows you to add any metadata: further links, documents, time series etc pp.
Borehole Quality Report
Sometimes boreholes were not correctly displayed or even not displayed at all in GST Web and it was very hard to find the culprit. With GST 3.16 we introduce the Borehole Quality Report which gives you list of boreholes which are problematic for example due to overlapping layers.
Improved SEGY import
Seismic data can often be very complex. Even the SEGY file format is not always clear and brings its own complexity. To make it easier to import SEGY file into GST we added new functionalities:
- After adjusting the trace bytes, you can display several correlation plots of trace data and a list of all trace coordinates. This will allow you to check if your settings are basically correct and make the import of seismic even easier.

- When importing a set of multiple SEGY files, you previously had to adjust each one manually. With the newest GST Desktop you can simply use the „Rescan all with Settings“ button and apply your current adjustments to all SEGY files in the current upload queue.
OGC API Processes
GiGa infosystems continues the journey with the OGC API. With GST 3.14 we already introduced the GeoVolumes API and with GST 3.15 we added the Features API and even made boreholes available via both OGC APIs. This allows for many new use cases involving 3d data and opens up the data stored in GST to more users.
With GST 3.16 we now also adopted the OGC API Processes. At first there will be a single download process allowing you to download data from GST within a bounding box or polygon. It even allows to plugin other OGC compatible services such as:
- WMS and WMTS
- STAC
- and FSDN (earthquakes).
The OGC API will prepare a single zipped file containing all the data you requested. This can be a 3d model together with complimentary geological maps and cross sections and other reports. Moreover, it will only contain the data in the volume of interest you provided.
Client-side License Checking
With GST 3.16 we enforce more client-side and server-side license checks. This affects all products. Furthermore we bumped the license version to 3.0 finally. If you encounter any licensing issue please do not hesitate to contact us.
Further changes
As already mentioned, many aspects of loading and visualization have been improved to make GST Web perform better with all kinds of geometries. We have reworked the cache generation process, which now runs faster and uses memory more efficiently. Additionally, all geometries should now display correctly, including those with textures and spatial parameter distributions. The display of SGrids and Voxets has been reworked to provide you the best experience.
We took a look at all requests that Web makes to load data and developed a plan to reduce their number and improve data transfer efficiency. This has resulted in a significant performance boost when loading and displaying geometries.
Naturally we fixed many small bugs which have been reported by our valuable customers.
We hope you enjoy the new features and the performance improvements as much as we did when we were working on it. We always strive to make GST a better product which fits your needs. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or have more ideas for improvements.
